A Nairn post office welcomed customers in its new location earlier this month.

After the closure of its main premises on Cawdor Street, which had been the service has returned within its new base at Strachans Newsagents on the High Street, benefitting from extended opening hours.

This comes after the Post Office announcement in April to “franchise out” all of its remaining 108 directly-managed branches in the UK — which will also see the closure of the main Post Office in Inverness and the transfer of services to the nearby Co-op.

The premises underwent a refit to incorporate two low-screened Post Office counters alongside the retail counter, providing the same services — with the vast majority of services being retained.

Post Office Regional Change Manager, Kenny Lamont, said: “We are delighted to have a new permanent operator for Nairn Post Office, which will safeguard service to the community. The community will also benefit from longer opening hours too.”

The new opening hours are: Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm and Saturday from 9am to 1pm, an extension of more than 13 hours on the previous working hours.
