Rail passengers on the Inverness-Aberdeen line were facing disruption on Monday after numerous trains were cancelled between the Highland capital and Elgin.

A train fault prompted at least six separate cancellations on services linking Inverness and Elgin.

Those affected were the 9.46am, 11.44am and 1.30pm Inverness to Elgin trains, as well as the 10.51am, 12.36pm and 2.25pm Elgin to Inverness services.

The earlier 7.18am Elgin to Inverness was also cancelled on Monday, although the cause of that disruption was listed as a "shortage of train crew" when the cancellation was first announced on Sunday evening.

Elsewhere, the 6.13am Ardgay to Inverness service on the Far North Line was also cancelled on Monday morning due to a shortage of staff.
