Work is now under way to install traffic lights at a “hazardous” junction on a busy Inverness road.

Contractors are expected to take up to eight weeks to carry out the work at the busy B9006 accident hotspot joining Tower Road and Culloden Road.

During the construction, Tower Road will be closed between its junction with the B9006 Inverness to Culloden road and its junction with Caulfield Road.

This part of the work will result in the closure of this Tower Road section for four weeks.

Those behind the project say that the road closure will help reduce the overall length of the work and cut back on the need for three-way traffic lights - which would have led to lengthier delays for motorists on one of the city’s key traffic arteries.

Chairman of Highland Council’s economy and infrastructure committee, councillor Ken Gowans, has previously hailed the moves to install new traffic lights at the accident blackspot, saying it had been “particularly hazardous for many years”, and that the end result would improve road safety “for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians”.

Strath Civil Engineering Limited is carrying out the work.
