Time is running out to stand for Inverness, Nairn and Badenoch and Strathspey

Highland Council has confirmed the timetable for the General Election for the three Westminster constituencies in the region.

A Notice of Election was published yesterday by the local authority for the Highland UK parliamentary constituencies Inverness, Nairn and Badenoch and Strathspey; Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross; and Ross, Skye and Lochaber.

Candidates wishing to stand have until 4pm on Thursday November 14 to submit their nominations.

To stand as a candidate in a UK Parliamentary General Election, an individual needs to be at least 18 years old and a British citizen, citizen of the Republic of Ireland or a citizen of a commonwealth country who does not require leave to enter or remain in the UK, or has indefinite leave to remain in the UK.

Candidates must also not be disqualified from standing on the day of nomination and on the polling day.

Anyone wishing to vote in the election at a polling station, using a postal vote or by applying for a proxy vote must ensure they are registered.

The deadline to register to vote or to apply for a proxy vote is Tuesday 26 November.
