YELLOW weather warnings for torrential rain have been issued for the area.

The first of three separate warnings come into force at 4am tomorrow morning and will remain in force until 6pm that night.

It covers and area to the south and west of Inverness and parts of the Great Glen.

“Rain will become persistent and at times heavy early on Tuesday, clearing from the west later in the day,” said a Met Office spokesman. “The rain will be accompanied by gales with a risk of severe gales for exposed coasts and hills for a time.”

Between 20mm and 40mm of rain is expected.

A second warning for heavy rain will run across Inverness, the Black Isle and Great Glen from 3am to midday on Wednesday, with a third alert then taking effect for most of Friday.

On that occasion rainfall totals of 20-40mm are expected “fairly widely”. As much as 80mm is possible over higher ground.
