THREE new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded across the NHS Highland area in the past day.

The region’s number of cumulative infections rose from 4972 to 4975 when the latest daily update was published on Thursday.

Seven patients were receiving treatment for the virus in NHS Highland hospitals last night – down three from Wednesday.

There were 400 positive tests for the coronavirus across Scotland in the past 24 hours, or 1.8 per cent of those tested.

Some 215 people were in Scottish hospitals due to the virus last night – a fall of 22 in the past day.

But the number of those in intensive care remained unchanged on 21.

And sadly another eight Covid deaths have been recorded in Scotland since yesterday.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no fresh cases in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

Thirty-five people have tested positive for the virus across NHS Grampian since yesterday – taking its tally to 14,409.

And NHS Tayside’s total rose by 24, to 14,237.

A total of 218,832 people have tested positive for the virus across Scotland since the start of the pandemic.

Some 2.493 million people have now had their first vaccination dose, while more than 399,000 have received their second.
