A Central Belt plasterer who was found by police in his car tested positive for excess alcohol.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 24-year-old Calum Smith, of Broom Crescent, East Kilbride was found in Millburn Road, Inverness on October 13, 2023 by the officers. A later test showed that he had 55mcgs of alcohol in his blood when the legal limit is 22mgs.

A police computer check for insurance also revealed Smith did not have a valid policy.

Defence solicitor John MacColl told Sheriff Gary Aitken that he had little to say about the offences other than: "Clearly it was a significant error of judgement."

Smith admitted both charges and was fined £500. His driving licence was endorsed with 10 penalty points.
