An engineer who felt unwell was driving home when he collided with a car in Inverness's Grant Street last summer.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that 60-year-old Antony Bessell, of Ferry Road, Barrow-in-Furness was seen to strike the other vehicle and then drive off on the evening of August 9.

Fiscal depute Karen Poke told Sheriff Neil Wilson that Bessell was tracked down a short time later as CCTV filmed the incident.

Bessell admitted driving carelessly, failing to report the accident and failing to stop.

Defending, Rory Gowans said: "He had been working in the area for five months at the Beauly substation and he took unwell."

Sheriff Wilson fined Bessell a total of £790 and endorsed his licence with nine penalty points having considered and rejected "by a narrow margin" disqualifying the ex-serviceman from driving.
