Sheriff Sara Matheson was told that a neighbour intervened and took the couple's dog away which prompted Brock to go upstairs to his front door and strike it with a bicycle while demanding entry.

Defending, Rory Gowans said: "There were no previous domestic incidents. This stemmed from both of them drinking heavily over two or three days so his memory is not that good.

"He was going through a divorce at the time and bottled everything up. The neighbour took his dog upstairs and it was a lot of hot air. He has curtailed his drinking and he and his partner are still in a relationship."

Sheriff Matheson fined Brock £335 and declined to impose a non-harassment order at his partner's request.
