AN ancient Highland broch has been targeted by thieves who stole a large 'cast iron casting' from the site, police have confirmed.

The large piece of cast iron, which had the appearance of a door lintel, was taken from the Clachtoll broch, at Clachtoll in Assynt, Sutherland.

Police said the large brown casting was confirmed to be at the broch in late September 2019 and was not discovered missing until August 28 this year.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have information regarding this theft.

"The casting has the appearance of a door lintel and is heavy and would require at least two people to carry it," said a police spokesman from Lochinver.

"I would urge anyone who has information regarding this theft to contact police on 101, quoting incident number NE/3436/20 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
