Fiscal depute Victoria Silver said he had been driving at "grossly excessive speed" in the view of the police carrying out a speed check that evening.

Defence solicitor advocate Clare Russell told Sheriff Ian Cruickshank: "He runs his own security firm and does the emergency responses. But with the loss of his licence he won't be able to do that and the business doesn't turn over enough to cover a replacement.

"There may be jobs lost for 12 people whom he employs as a result of his poor driving."

Barclay admitted driving dangerously and was fined £840. He was also banned from the road for a year but must sit the extended test of competency before getting back behind the wheel.
