Inverness serial offender given a chance after assaulting police officers
A pregnant serial offender was given a chance to get her life back on track and concentrate on raising her baby when she appeared for sentence at Inverness Sheriff Court.
A background report had been prepared on 26-year-old Jade Vint, of Thornbush Road, Inverness after she had previously admitted spitting at a police officer on being arrested in Huntly Street, Inverness on July 29, 2024.
She admitted that offence and a second one of police assault at her home on September 8 last year when she attempted to bite another officer as she was being arrested.
Defence solicitor Rory Gowans told Sheriff Gary Aitken: "When she discovered she was pregnant she took actions to become drug free for the sake of the unborn child.
"This is her past catching up on her. To her credit, she has used the period in custody to sort out issues like getting accommodation and support on her release.
"She is genuinely contrite and it appears the penny has dropped."
Sheriff Aitken told Vint: "The courts take a dim view of spitting, particularly at police officers. But the report suggests that the penny has indeed dropped and there is a significant change in her attitude."
He placed Vint on 18 months of social work supervision with drug treatment and wished her well with the birth.
"Hopefully we will not see you as much in the future, if at all," the sheriff added.
