The leaders of the Salvation Army are to speak at a special service in Inverness this weekend.

Commissioners Anthony and Gillian Cotterill are attending the Scottish Episcopal Cathedral on Saturday at 6pm.

Prior to their ministry with The Salvation Army, Gill was a state registered nurse and Anthony a geography teacher.

But as members of The Salvation Army in central London they felt a call to serve as officers.

Their ministry has given them a variety of experiences over the years as leaders of local congregations in Buckie and Arbroath followed by a spell in Glasgow.

While in Glasgow, Anthony was heavily involved with The Salvation Army’s response to the Lockerbie bombing in 1988.

Following their time in Scotland their appointments took them to the Birmingham area followed by local Salvation Army leadership in Hemel Hempstead.

This was followed by the leadership of The Salvation Army in the south east of England.

They were then appointed by The Salvation Army to become the principal and associate principal of William Booth College, where Salvation Army training is based.

Prior to their current appointments they lived in Copenhagen serving in the Denmark and Greenland Territory where Anthony was chief secretary and Gill the territorial secretary for Women’s Ministries, a role which included responsibility for anti-human trafficking and modern slavery.

Following their overseas service, Anthony and Gill returned to London in the summer of 2018 to take up the leadership of The Salvation Army in the UK.
