A THIRD of residents who contracted Covid-19 at a Highland care home have subsequently died, after a 10th fatality was reported this morning.

Some 59 people have been infected with the coronavirus at the Home Farm Care Home in Portree, Skye – 30 of the 34 residents and 29 of the staff.

News of the latest death comes just a couple of days after the Care Inspectorate began legal action to remove the care home operator's registration to run the site. That followed an unannounced visit by inspectors which it said had uncovered "serious" issues.

And, last night, Highland Council announced the launch of an advice leaflet aimed at highlighting the support available to the people of Skye as they try to deal with the outbreak.

Army personnel have also been running a testing site on the island in a bid to try to prevent the spread of the virus on Skye.
