TEN newly confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been registered across the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours.

The region’s cumulative number of positive tests increased from 5072 to 5082 when the Scottish Government published its latest daily update at 2pm on Friday.

There were 204 new positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past day – or 1.4 per cent of all tests conducted during that 24-hour period.

Some 109 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night. This was down six from Thursday.

Of those, 18 were in intensive care – an increase of two.

Sadly a further three deaths have been recorded among people who tested positive for the virus in the past 28 days.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were once again no fresh infections in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

Twenty-five new positive tests were recorded across NHS Grampian, which now has a running tally of 14,732.

And NHS Tayside’s total rose to 14,512, after another 17 confirmed cases were detected in the past day.

There have now been 223,261 positive tests for the virus in Scotland since the pandemic first began.

More than 2,722,000 adults in Scotland have now received their first Covid vaccination jag, with 688,761 having had their second.
