Inverness man jailed for mugging teenager
A teenager out walking with his girlfriend was mugged and robbed of £100 by his attacker whom he knew.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 21-year-old William Williamson, of Lochalsh Road, Inverness pushed the youth to the ground, straddled him, put his hands round his victim's neck and punched him before taking the money and saying: "Give me all you have got."
Williamson admitted the assault and robbery which took place in an alleyway behind The Green House in Beechwood Business Park on October 27, 2023.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank jailed him for 17 months and criticised him for the offence which was committed while he was waiting to be sentenced for another offence and was on three bail orders.
Fiscal depute Susan Love told the court that the victim's girlfriend saw a police car nearby and ran to the officers, shouting: "My boyfriend is being robbed just round the corner."
When Williamson saw the police approaching, he ran off but was quickly captured and arrested.
Defending, David Patterson said that his client was having difficulties with consuming substances and the company he was keeping at the time.
"He was placed on a community payback order for that offence which was pending and it has been having an effect as there has been no further offences," he added.
Williamson's girlfriend was in court to hear the sentencing and sobbed as her boyfriend was being led away. He also was on the verge of tears and told her: "I love you. I am so sorry."
