THERE is a tasty new signing for Lochardil Primary’s girls’ football team.

Sam’s Indian Cuisine in Church Street is backing the side and the sport has grown in popularity since the women’s World Cup last summer.

The school team trains every Saturday and has seen numbers from each year group increase with 25 girls from P2-P7 signed for 2019/20.

Volunteer coach David Hamilton said: “The girls football team and coaches would like to thank Sam Miah, the owner of Sam’s Indian Cuisine, for sponsoring the team. The sponsorship was secured following a conversation with restaurant manager Harry Sarwar and has enabled the squad to invest in new football strips.

“Harry’s children are former Lochardil Primary pupils and with Sam’s Indian Cuisine also having their own amateur team, they were delighted to support the girls’ football team.

“In addition to competing at the SFA festivals at Millburn Academy every fortnight, the girls have also enjoyed playing a number of friendly matches this year.”
