A three-day food and drink festival in Nairn has been postponed until the autumn because of coronavirus.

However, Great British Bake Off finalist Alice Fevronia has agreed to still attend Taste of Nairn which will now take place in October.

It was originally due to take place in the seaside town between Friday, April 3 and Sunday, April 5, but the organiser, Nairn BID, has taken the decision to delay the event until the weekend of October 9.

Now in its second year Taste of Nairn will still include a mini music and street food festival, an artisan market, a farmers’ market and many other events throughout the town.

Janis Maclean, the BID manager, said there was no option but to delay because of the current crisis and added: “The team working on Taste of Nairn are devastated that we are having to postpone, but under the circumstances we feel this is the best course of action and the good news is that we will still be welcoming Alice Fevronia.

“Other than the date, we don’t intend much to change. We have contacted all our traders and suppliers and the businesses that intended to get involved and what has been great is that everyone has been understanding and everyone is planning to still remain involved for October.

“These are difficult times for businesses and the community, but most of all what we have seen are people supporting each other and finding ways to deal with what is an unprecedented situation.”

Other BID events, including small business breakfasts, business workshops and a one-day classic and modern vehicle show are currently still planned to go ahead but, organisers will continue to follow government advice and, if anything changes, will notify BID members and the wider general public as soon as possible.
