PRIDE walkers were blessed with a spell of sunshine during a wintry weekend as they marched through the streets of Inverness.

More than 50 people braved the cold to join the Highland Pride Winter Walk on Sunday, which saw the marchers start at Eden Court for a walk towards the Ness Islands and along the river to celebrate LGBT History Month.

Despite wet and muddy terrain at points people of all ages, families and pooches went along, with people travelling from as far as Fife to attend the event.

Highland Pride events manager Jessica Taylor said: “We were absolutely delighted with the turnout for our Highland Pride Winter Walk in Inverness as the weather had not looked promising!

“We were fortunate that the rain held off and the sun came out for us for the duration of the walk.

“As soon as we all finished the rain came on again, the perfect time to dash inside for a well-earned coffee and cake.

“We also had a small group of LGBT+ disabled attendees who took part and they really enjoyed it too — one attendee said that it really meant a lot to them that there were new social opportunities like this opening up across the Highlands.

“Mental health and wellbeing is really important to our organisation and walking boosts your physical health and it also helps with your mental health and a 30-minute walk can increase your mental alertness, energy and positive mood.”

The walk is part of a Winter Pride programme with a month of events to coincide with LGBT History Month which is running until the end of February.
