Strong winds are hampering the recovery of an overturned lorry which has resulted in the closure of the A9 on the Dornoch Bridge.

The incident happened about 1.20pm and caused partial restrictions on the southbound lane at first with the complete closure confirmed at 1.35pm.

Motorists travelling on the A9 are being advised to expect disruption and delays caused by the road traffic accident

Although initial reports suggested the lorry driver had been injured, a Police Scotland spokesman said there were no injuries.

Fire crews from Dornoch, Bonar Bridge, Tain and Inverness attended the scene. A heavy rescue unit from Inverness was also sent to the scene.

A number of weather warnings were issued with strong winds expected to continue.
