A WOMAN is following in the footsteps of her mother by taking part in this year’s Strictly Inverness charity dance competition.

Penny O’Brien (25), from Inverness, decided to become a contestant in the fundraising event for Highland Hospice and the Inverness Ice Centre after seeing her mother compete in 2013.

A move to the central belt saw her put the goal on the back-burner for several years, but she is now back home and ready for the dancefloor.

She said: “I was really looking forward to getting involved in Strictly Inverness and fundraising for the Highland Hospice. They do such a great job and they looked after my grandfather some years ago, so this is my chance to do my bit for them.

“Me and my mother are very close and she is also helping me fundraising for Strictly this time.”

Ms O’Brien and her mother, Lorraine, are now holding a Strictly Bootcamp – a series of Zumba class and fitness sessions – at Dan Moore Elite Training in Inverness, which will run on February 22 and 29, with a price of £7 per person with all proceeds going to charity.

A Strictly Stramash event with live music from Crafty Jack and Calum Jones, a performance by the Highland Magician and a buffet is also planned for Saturday, March 21, at 7pm at Balloch Village Hall, with tickets on sale for £20.

For more information on both the bootcamp and Strictly Stramash you can contact Ms O’Brien at 07511 747968.

This year’s Strictly Inverness competition takes place from May 13 to 16 at the ice centre.
