A STAR of hit TV competition The Great British Bake Off will visit an annual Highland food and drink festival in April.

Alice Fevronia, a finalist in last year’s series, will head to Taste of Nairn which takes place between April 3-5 to act as judge in the event’s own showstopper contest on April 4.

She will also do a baking demonstration and question and answer session.

She said: “I’m so excited to be coming to beautiful Nairn this April and to be demoing at the Taste of Nairn festival.

“I have never been to the Highlands before, so I am really looking forward to exploring the town and celebrating the festival’s delicious food and drink.”

Event organiser Nairn BID has secured the town’s Ashers Bakery as a sponsor.

Company director Ali Asher said: “There are many excellent food producers in Nairnshire and this, which highlights what we have on our doorstep, can only be good for all local businesses. It creates a buzz around this great town with a load of interesting stuff going on for locals and tourists alike.”

This year’s Taste of Nairn will boast a mini music festival with street food, a food and drink market, food-related street performances and there will be a farmers’ market in town centre.

In its first year, Taste of Nairn showcased more than 40 businesses and it is hoped that more will join the festivities for 2020.

Nairn BID’s manager Janis Maclean said: “We are thrilled that Alice is keen to attend and we have no doubt that she will be given a traditional Highland welcome.”

The showstopper contest is open to all ages, with participants asked to theme their cake or bake on Nairn. Entries should be left at the town’s community centre before 10am on April 4.
