A World War II Spitfire has soared over hospitals in Inverness in tribute to those helping in the fight against Covid-19.

The aircraft, emblazoned with the words THANK U NHS, flew over Raigmore and New Craigs hospitals in the city as part of a morale-boosting UK tour.

Scores of staff and visitors at both hospitals stepped outside to enjoy the spectacle, waving and applauding as well as capturing their own pictures of the rare sight.

The plane owners the Aircraft Restoration Company, said the aim of the flight was to lift spirits and also thank the hospitals, communities and individuals at the forefront of getting the country through the pandemic.
