Sons of Anarchy star Tommy Flanagan charmed staff at an Inverness kiltmakers with a visit while filming in the Highlands.

The Hollywood actor, best known for playing ‘Chibs’ in the American action crime drama TV series, is also famed for roles in the movies Braveheart, Gladiator and Sin City, as well as the Peaky Blinders TV series.

Flanagan was with the less well-known writer, author and saltwater fishing fly designer Drew Chicone, with the duo believed to be plotting a television documentary.

They popped into the Ben Wyvis Kilts store in Church Street on Thursday this week and spent several hours trying on outfits, before being fully kitted out by staff.

Ben Wyvis Kilts’ staff and management had to sign a confidentiality agreement preventing them from discussing the pair’s plans for the filming project.

But a spokeswoman confirmed: “We had them here and they were absolutely lovely. Everyone really enjoyed having them.

“They spent a few hours here with us and were fully kitted out with outfits, but we can’t discuss what they are doing in the area or too much else.”

The pair were later spotted wandering in relaxed fashion and filming on Church Street.

A social media post by Ben Wyvis Kilts said: “Our special guests can finally be revealed.

“We had the pleasure of meeting Tommy Flanagan and Drew Chicone who came into our newly refurbished shop to film for an upcoming series.

“I think we can all agree they both look amazing and we can’t wait to watch the show when it releases!

“Thank you for shopping locally and letting us kit you both out!”

The Facebook post drew excitement from some and bafflement from others who were unaware who the pair were.

Sons of Anarchy, now being shown on Netflix, was originally aired from September 3, 2008 to December 9, 2014.

It follows the lives of a close-knit outlaw motorcycle club operating in Charming, a fictional town in California's Central Valley.

The series explored vigilantism, government corruption, and racism and the third season attracted an average of 4.9 million weekly viewers.

It has won numerous awards including a best actress in a TV show Golden Globe in 2011 for Katey Sagal.

Flanagan’s much-lauded portrayal of Chibs Telford is arguably his most well-known role internationally and in the UK.
