SIXTEEN new coronavirus cases have been logged in the NHS Highland area over the past 24 hours.

The sharp rise – which takes the cumulative number to 669 cases – was confirmed in figures published by the Scottish Government today.

Nationwide there were 668 new cases of Covid-19 reported across Scotland.

That equates to this is 10.8 per cent of newly tested individuals.

Sadly, three new reported deaths of people who have tested positive were recorded.

A total of 17 people were in intensive care yesterday with a recently confirmed diagnosis.

And 154 people were in hospital yesterday as a result of Covid-19.

The Western Isles' recent cluster of cases continued, with two new positive tests recorded since yesterday. It has now had 32 confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic.

But NHS Shetland and NHS Orkney both reported no fresh diagnoses once again.

NHS Grampian, meanwhile, reported another 25 positive tests to take its cumulative total to 2338.

The Greater Glasgow and Clyde area saw a rise of 244 cases and there were 166 more in Lothian.
