Councillor Ken Gowans hit out at the application by agent Bracewell-Stirling for DMPM Services.

He said the site was not zoned for housing and would pile pressure on local school rolls which are already well over 100 per cent capacity.

“While we need more affordable houses, any development must be part of the local plan, and this development is not.

“This is likely to generate more unacceptable pressures on infrastructure which is already struggling to cope at the moment.

“While developers pay contributions towards education, it doesn’t change the fact that local schools are beyond full, and the council’s school roll projections indicate these will worsen in the short to medium term,” he said.

Highlands MSP and road safety campaigner David Stewart also expressed some concern: “I am mindful that the dual A9 will be at one side of this site and the rural B9177 road will extend along another side of the site.

“As it stands, this particular road has no pavement for pedestrians and this would be an issue that would cause me concern.”
