Food court at Eastgate Shopping Centre in Inverness enlivened by art

Work by five Highland artists has been unveiled in the Eastgate Shopping Centre in Inverness.

The artworks, ranging from landscapes to abstracts, will be displayed in the centre’s food court area in the run-up to Christmas.

The artists include retired art teacher John Nicholson, who has exhibited widely in Scotland, creative educator/artist Gael Hillyard, who is also producing four paintings for Spirit:360 @SpiritoftheHighlands at Inverness Castle, and Martin Irish, whose work has featured in solo exhibitions in Scotland.

All have studios at the Inverness Creative Academy set up by national artist studios provider Wasps.

The other two artists are Christine Ewan, the recently-retired principal teacher of art at Millburn Academy in Inverness, and David Ewan, retired principal teacher of art at Inverness Royal Academy. Both work from their home studio.

Mr Nicholson said: “The centre approached Wasps at Inverness Creative Academy with a view to enlivening the food court area prior to re-development.”

The exhibition will run for six weeks.
