Inverness man fined after theft in city centre supermarket
A SECURITY guard chased a shoplifter after £245 of goods had been stolen from an Inverness supermarket.
But 38-year-old Leo Allan managed to escape with his haul of five fragrances and an electric shaver on May 10 last year.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that Allan, of Aird Crescent, was on a drug treatment and testing order at the time.
Defence solicitor Marc Dickson said: “It went very well but this was a brief relapse in his drug addiction.” Fiscal depute Pauline Gair told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald that the guard saw Allan rushing out of the Tesco store in Tomnahurich Street with a bag.
The security tags on the items activated the alarm and Allan was followed, but managed to escape from the guard.
Mrs Gair said there was no recovery.
Allan, who admitted theft by shoplifting and previous convictions, was fined £340.
