Inverness shop worker admits embezzling £10k

Sentence has been deferred on a 63-year-old woman after she admitted embezzling £10,000 from a Dalneigh newsagent and general store.

Sheriff David Mackie heard that Jacqueline Maclean, of St Valery Avenue, Inverness had originally been charged with taking £16,382.36 from Laidlaw's, in Bruce Gardens, but fiscal depute Victoria Silver accepted the lower sum put forward by defence solicitor Patrick O'Dea at Inverness Sheriff Court.

The offence happened between September 1, 2021 and June 1, 2022 when Maclean worked at the shop as a cashier and general assistant.

Sheriff Mackie deferred sentence until July 24 for a background report without hearing the facts of the case or any mitigation.
