Mobile phone shop staff in Inverness were victims of a quick-fire fraud by a man using someone’s else’s identity card.

Adelemi Ogundele pretended to be a Christopher Wilson using the man’s German identity card on January 17 this year, which had been improperly obtained, Inverness Sheriff Court heard.

He managed to obtain more than £3000 worth of electronic communications equipment.

The 42-year-old, of Cardwell Street, Oldham, who had previous convictions for dishonesty, toured Eastgate Shopping Centre and elsewhere in Inverness, visiting three shops.

Employees at Vodafone, Carphone Warehouse and EE were induced to provide the items before Ogundele tried to flee south on a train.

But he was traced and arrested with his haul being found still in its packaging in his backpack.

Ogundele, who was not personally present at court, admitted obtaining an iPhone and iPad, two mobile phone contracts and three mobile phones by fraud and having false identification.

He was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work.
