The leisure link partnership allows highlife card holders to access gym, public swimming and fitness classes at leisure centres for free in the Highlands, Moray, Orkney, The Western Isles, Aberdeen, the Borders and Argyll and Bute.

From today, the Shetland Recreational Trust is a part of the scheme, meaning eight new centres are included.

High Life Highland (HLH), a culture and leisure trust that have facilities across the Highlands, are behind the partnership.

HLH chief executive, Steve Walsh, said he was pleased to welcome the Shetland Recreational Trust to the partnership.

“This collaboration gives leisure members and their families even greater flexibility to use their leisure cards at various sites right across Scotland, and all at no extra cost,” he added.

Head of operations and business support at Shetland Recreational Trust Robert Geddes said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer our MORE4life members the opportunity to keep active at leisure facilities across the country.

“This flexibility means that people working away from home or on holiday can use local facilities from participating areas as part of their existing home-based membership.”

The highlife card offers admission for 23 leisure centres which provide health and fitness opportunities in a variety of ways, whether through swimming, squash or climbing.

Members are advice to check with the site they plan on visiting and to book if needed.
