NHS Highland area records 17 further cases of Covid-19 coronavirus

SEVENTEEN new coronavirus cases were detected across the NHS Highland region in the past 24 hours.
The region’s cumulative number of confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic rose from 4551 to 4568 when the latest daily figures were released at 2pm.
Thirty-two people were being treated for Covid-19 in NHS Highland hospitals last night, a figure which was unchanged from Sunday.
Of those, six were in intensive care. This was also the same as yesterday.
There were 715 positive tests across Scotland in the past 24 hours – representing 6.6 per cent of all tests during that period.
Some 1141 people were being treated for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – up nine from Sunday’s update. Ninety-nine of those were in intensive care, a figure unchanged from yesterday.
No fresh deaths were registered in the past 24 hours, although the Scottish Government cautioned that most registry offices are shut at weekends and that this artificially lowers such figures.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no reports of fresh cases in the Northern Isles, but NHS Eileanan Siar’s figure in the Outer Hebrides rose by one, to 262.
On the mainland, NHS Grampian’s total increased by 34, to 13,326.
And NHS Tayside detected 20 new cases – for a cumulative tally of 12,938.
There have been 198,184 confirmed cases of the virus in Scotland since the start of the pandemic.
Some 1,445,488 people have received their first vaccination jags – after a further 13,546 were administered in the 24 hours to 8.30am on Monday. This was lower than recent days, but the Scottish Government stressed that this was due to a well publicised temporary reduction in supplies of the vaccine. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon added that the numbers are expected to “ramp up” again “in the weeks to come”.
