McDonald's, Superdrug and Waterstones among Inverness shops closed due to power outage





A power outage caused by a fire at an Inverness substation has resulted in the closure of several services and business premises today.

Along with several outlets in the Eastgate Shopping Centre, NHS Highland have confirmed that its vaccination centre has been closed for all appointments.

The closure follows an outage caused after a fire was reported at Waterloo Place substation in the early hours of the morning.

SSE estimate that the fault will be repaired by 6pm.

A note on the door of McDonald's restaurant on Inverness High Street also confirmed that it will be closed today.

Inverness Museum and Art Gallery also confirmed its closure on X.

Castle street restaurant Number 27, outdoor sports retailer, Graham's of Inverness, House of Arran, the Highlander (shop), the Works, SuperDrug, Inverness Trophy Centre, Coffee Affair, Gleneagles of Scotland, Judith Glue Inverness, Bella Italia, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Highland House of Fraser, Xoko, The Whisky Shop, James Pringle Weavers, Zizzi, Gellions, Thistle Do Nicely and Indigo Sun have also confirmed that they are closed.

Some outlets are reported to still be open, including some who opened later in the day. Marks & Spencer, Boots and the City Cafe are reported to now be open.

Elsewhere, motorists and pedestrians have been urged to take care after the power cut knocked out a number of city centre traffic lights. Crossings in Bridge Street and Castle Street were among those not working.
