A Fort William man who made offensive racist comments and gesticulated towards a child in Inverness has been placed on a drug treatment and testing order.

Craig Cook, of Sealladh Na Beinne, Fort William appeared for sentence at Inverness Sheriff Court after previously admitting abusive behaviour which was committed in Harris Road, Inverness on May 14 this year.

Defence solicitor David Patterson said his 33-year-old client was no stranger to the courts but his appearances were becoming fewer and a background report would be useful.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald read the report and indicated that she was inclined to follow the recommendation of its author.

She told Cook he would be tested regularly for drugs for the next 18 months.

She added: "This worked for you before. I hope it works again."

Cook said from the dock: "It definitely will."
