Land in Nairn could be used as a seating area if councillors approve the move.

Members of Highland Council’s Nairnshire area committee are set to discuss the matter at a meeting on Monday.

It concerns land covering a total area of 178 square metres at West Links in Marine Road.

A report is also proposing using an additional 40.5 square metres of public land, next to the Links Kiosk, to also be used for seating.

The report states: “The Links Kiosk and an area of surrounding land at West Links, Nairn is currently leased to James’s Limited until 2029 for the purposes of a retail outlet selling ice cream, cakes, tray bakes, cold sandwiches, savoury slices, crisps and hot and cold drinks. The lease began in 2015.

“The tenant has approached the council with a request to consider granting a long lease extension of 30 years (until 2052) and also seeking an additional area of land of 40.5 square metres.

“This will give him the security to commit to a programme of investment in the site as well as provide for increased outside seating space.”

The area is a Common Good asset and was subject to a public consultation.
