A CCTV image of a 72-year-old man missing from the Beauly area since before Christmas has been released in a bid to help with the ongoing search.

James Paton, who has been missing from his home since 1.30pm on Monday, December 23, was last seen driving his silver Dacia Duster on the Fanellan Farm Road, near to Ruttle Woods, on the south side of the River Beauly.

The image was taken at a filling station in Beauly shortly before the last sighting of Mr Paton.

His vehicle was found near Upper Fanellan on the day of his disappearance.

Searches remain ongoing in the area, with officers from Police Scotland's Dive and Marine Unit carrying out searches of the River Beauly today.

Sergeant Brian Bisset of Beauly Police Station said: "Sadly, despite extensive searches we have not been able to locate Mr Paton.

"We are keeping his family fully informed as we continue our enquiries.

"I would continue to urge people to be aware and report anything which may be helpful to police as soon as they can.

"I would also ask local residents to check any sheds, outbuildings or areas where someone could have sought shelter."

Mr Paton is described as 5ft 8ins tall, of stocky build, with grey hair and a beard. He also wears glasses.

At the time of his disappearance, Mr Paton was wearing black trousers, a purple jumper, green fleece jacket and brown rigger boots.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident 3111 of 23 December.
