AN ambitious scheme to redesign Nairn Links will go before councillors for the green light next week.

A new development plan for the town’s Links area is expected to be given the go-ahead.

The rubber stamp will see a project team and steering group press on with the first stage of the wider development plan, which will replace the ageing paddling pool with a fun splash-pad.

The water play park will feature pop-up fountains in summer and serve as an ice skating rink in winter.

The play park will also be extended as part of the scheme, which is being part-funded by the

town’s Team Hamish charity.

The development plan includes a long list of other projects which could be developed at the Links within the next decade.

These include a marina extension, an amphitheatre and events space within the current bowling green, with James’ Cafe as a “social hub”.

Various seafront viewing platforms with built-in seating would also be developed along with beachside sculptures, an extended James’ Cafe, Links Tearoom and Cumming Street Car Park, improved sailing club and harbour facilities, a marina extension, a new cafe, education space and revamped toilet facilities.

The Nairnshire Committee will meet on Wednesday with a view to approving the blueprint.

The document going before members says: “The proposed water play park is clearly seen as being valuable for Nairn. Since the current paddling pool’s lifespan is limited and its replacement is an ambition of both Highland Council and Team Hamish, progressing this project is an obvious starting point.”
