Soldiers from a Scottish regiment have been learning about the Battle of Culloden as part of a visit to the Highland capital.

The 19th Regiment Royal Artillery (The Scottish Gunners) will parade through Inverness centre on Saturday as it exercises its freedom of the city.

A planned march in March 2020 was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Scottish Gunners, previously the Highland Gunners, were given the Freedom of Inverness in March 1999.

The regiment, based in Larkhill in Wiltshire, traditionally recruited from the Highlands and although it now recruits across the UK and Commonwealth, it remains proud its Scottish heritage.

Ahead of Saturday's parade, members have been discovering more about the area and its history including a tour of the site of the last pitched battle on British soil in 1746.

Two pipers from the regiment, OCdt Michael Chiang and LBdr Calum Reid greeted fellow soldiers on their arrival.
