Rail chiefs have launched a recruitment drive to add to its team of engineers in Inverness.

ScotRail’s Inverness Depot is one of four main maintenance sites in Scotland and key to maintaining the fleet of trains which run across the Highlands.

The four depots in Scotland are responsible for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of more than 600 trains.

In a bid to bolster staff numbers in the Highlands and “keep train services in the north of the country on track” it has urged skilled mechanical and electrical engineers to put their names forward.

Salaries start from £47,338 and increase to £53,039 after completion of training.

To be a ScotRail engineer, candidates must hold relevant electrical or mechanical qualifications and be familiar with quality management (ISO 9001) procedures.

More information on the role can be found on the ScotRail careers website at www.scotrail.co.uk/careers.

Julie Dale, ScotRail HR Director, said: “We are excited to bring on talented engineers who share our passion for innovation and sustainability in public transport. It’s an excellent opportunity that provides high quality jobs which support the local economy and communities across the Highlands.

“Our engineers are at the heart of what we do, ensuring we deliver a safe and reliable railway for our customers. Checking and maintaining our trains before they depart on their journeys is vital part in the essential service ScotRail provides for local people, visitors, and tourists.”
