The revamped Highland Explorer Class 153 trains have been operating on the West Highland Line since 2021, but hopes similar revamps of Class 158 trains on the Kyle or Far North Lines appear to have been dashed.

ScotRail have cancelled this morning’s 08:02 service from Wick and Thurso to Inverness.

The rail company is blaming a faulty train.

Passengers will also not be provided with an alternative road replacement service.

A ScotRail spokesman said: “The 08:02 Wick to Inverness service due in at 12:27 will be cancelled. This is because of a fault on the train.

“As we are currently unable to provide alternative transport at present, passengers may wish to consider making their own arrangements.”
