Train travellers have been hit by the cancellation of an evening service on the Far North Line between Inverness and Wick.

The 18:31 Inverness to Wick train, expected into the Caithness town at 22:52, will not run tonight with ScotRail blaming a shortage of available drivers.

No replacement bus service is being provided by the rail operator.

A ScotRail spokesman added: “We have been unable to source transport to cover this service due to extremely low availability.

“Customers should, where possible, make their own arrangements or alternatively you can postpone travel until tomorrow, Thursday September 19.”

The 16:00 Wick to Inverness has also been hit by a minor delay due to a “problem with line-side equipment”, although the service is currently running only 10 minutes late.
