A COUPLE of local school closures have been reported in the local area following the return of further strong winds overnight.

So far Cawdor Primary and nursery and the Black Isle Education Centre are the two local casualties of the weather. Both are without power or heating.

Last night Highland Council said it did not evisage many other local schools being shut on Monday, although some closures were expected in the Western Isles and Sutherland.

"Most other schools are currently expected to open on Monday," said a spokeswoman. "However, this is subject to the availability of heating and power, and further inspections of building damage, and parents and carers are advised to check the council’s school closures website which will be updated after 7am on Monday or the school closures phone line on 0800 564 2272."

As of 7.30am the Highland Council site was reporting no closures locally, although with several local power outages reported this morning, that may change.
