A FREAK accident in a hot tub left an Inverness schoolgirl fighting for her life with a rare but deadly condition.

Dana Stewart was larking about in the water when her big sister Naomi tried to reheat it with water from a kettle.

The 10-year-old suffered a scald which then became infected with sepsis which it was feared would attack her internal organs.

After a day-and-a-half in a coma and three days in intensive care, the Holm Primary School football fanatic battled through and recovered.

Now her grateful parents Sandy and Heather are to lead an expedition up Ben Nevis to raise awareness of the deadly disease which almost claimed the life of their daughter.

Dana, her family and friends will also be using the Ben Nevis challenge to raise money for Edinburgh's Royal Hospital for Sick Children which treated her.
