Scared Inverness kids’ plea to drivers
FRIGHTENED primary school children in a busy Inverness neighbourhood have been forced to make their own road safety signs after “dangerous” brushes with traffic.
Residents at Duke’s View in Slackbuie fear someone will be killed or seriously injured on the housing estate’s narrow streets, a number of which do not have pavements.
But Highland Council’s roads department has so far refused to introduce traffic calming measures.
Officials insist the streets – including a blind junction – are fit for shared vehicle and pedestrian use.
Built in late 2006 by the now-defunct Atholl Developments, Duke’s View holds 51 homes.
One worried grandmother described the situation as “an accident waiting to happen” and is calling for urgent action.
Two other families recalled near-misses between fast-moving vehicles and children playing on push bikes.
Eight-year-old Abbie Lindsay, who designed the warning signs with friends, said: “People go too fast and one time a car nearly hit me. It can be quite scary.”
