Mexican eatery in Inverness Bellissimo Burrito set to shut following Wee Whisk closure
An Inverness Mexican cafe is set to close its doors in a week after failing to secure a lease on the premises it occupies.
Bellissimo Burrito has been trading from premises run by Wee Whisk Cafe on Culcabock Road since last August.
However Wee Whisk - opened by Whisk Away and Cawdor Deli owner Nyomi Dixon - announced the cafe had to shut for the rest of the year ‘at least’ due to high overheads, as well as Ms Dixon expecting a baby.
Today, Bellissimo Burrito owners announced that they will only be able to trade for one more week before closing until further notice.
A cafe spokesperson shared the “sad news” on Facebook, saying: “Unfortunately even after much negotiation and back and forth with relevant people, we can no longer trade in this unit.
“Whisk was sold a lease that is non-functional and should not be trading any food business in the premises.
“With Nyomi due a baby any day she closed Whisk doors in November to try and sort but it has now become very clear that is not able to happen.
“Time to walk away and enjoy a new baby and see what happens in the future.
“Hopefully a new unit or kitchen will come up to build Bellissimo Burrito in the future. Whisk Kitchen will move to Cawdor and continue doing outside catering events.
“But for now, time to enjoy one last Burrito this year - you have a week left.”
Earlier this year Ms Dixon shut the city centre premises of Whisk Away on Queensgate (formerly on Baron Taylor Street) saying the city centre was "just not the place it used to be".
