Former Inverness Caley Thistle and Scotland star Ryan Christie shows support for country’s first ever transplant football team ahead of European Championship debut

Inverness football star Ryan Christie has given his support to a newly-formed Scotland team looking to take part in European Championships later this year.

The first ever Scotland transplant football team has been created by Inverness-based Fire and Rescue Service employee Duncan MacAulay, who took the side down to Birmingham last weekend to play their first friendlies ahead of the Euros in a couple of months time.

Made up entirely of players who have undergone a solid organ, including stem cell, transplant which has required the use of immunosuppressive drug therapy, Mr MacAulay has gathered players from all corners of the country to take part.

He has already received backing from luminaries such as national team captain Andy Robertson, and a GoFundMe to support the costs involved is approaching £1000.

Now, Bournemouth and Scotland star Ryan Christie has joined in with support for the side, much to the delight of Inverness Caledonian Thistle fan Mr MacAulay.

Mr Christie has competed at two European Championships with Scotland, being part of the squad that qualified for a first men’s major international tournament in 23 years when they made it to Euro 2020.

He was still in the mix last summer, too, when Scotland made it to Germany, leading Mr Christie to call it a golden generation for the men’s national side.
