A godmother fell out with her god-daughter who ended up with a small cut after being struck by a glass during a drinking session.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that health and safety officer Denise Bredin (46), who lives and works in The Hague in the Netherlands, had been in an Inverness city centre bar with Sarah Esson and her mother on October 31, 2020.

Fiscal depute Pauline Gair said the trio had returned to a house in Birchwood Place, adding: “An argument developed and during it a glass in Bredin’s hand struck Ms Esson on the head, causing a small cut above her left eye.”

Defence solicitor Clare Russell told Sheriff Sara Matheson that her client called her god-daughter “a spoiled brat”, adding: “She then threatened to throw the contents of her glass to cool her down and the glass came into contact with the complainer.”

Bredin was fined £1155.
