Roadworks to run for week longer than expected on A9 at Highland gateway
Major roadworks to resurface the A9 just north of the Drumochter dual carriageway will continue for longer than originally expected.
The works had been scheduled to finish at 6am this Saturday.
However, the completion date is now 6am on Saturday 6 July.
Road bosses have said there are ‘a number of factors impacting the programme’.
The works began on Sunday 16 June
Traffic on the A9 single carriageway just north of the Drumochter duals is being controlled by temporary traffic management.
No works are taking place this Saturday but they will resume on Sunday.
The A9 single carriageway north of the Drumochter duals is currently subject to a traffic management system of temporary two-way traffic lights with convoy.
A reduced speed limit of 10mph is also set-up on the approach to the site and traffic will be guided through the works by the convoy vehicle.
During non-working hours, the temporary traffic management measures are being lifted.
Throughout the day, a 30mph speed limit is in effect as a temporary surface and ramps will be in use.
Access through the works site for emergency services is being maintained at all times.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “This crucial surfacing project along the A9 is fixing existing defects and significantly enhance the driving experience for all motorists.
“Our teams are committed to executing these works quickly and with safety as our top priority.
“We extend our gratitude to the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.”
