Road improved so waterworks can be upgraded at Ardersier

WORK begins tomorrow to improve a road near Ardersier so that a controversial waterworks upgrade can be carried out in the village.

Scottish Water plans to increase capacity at the existing water treatment plant to accommodate future population increases caused by the creation of the Tornagrain new town.

The scheme has proven highly contentious among Ardersier residents, who fear the new treatment plant will impact on their quality of life and deter tourists.

Work began in December but, before larger construction vehicles can access the site, Scottish Water will be carrying out upgrades to the C1005 Muir of Balnagowan – Fort George road. This will allow construction teams to access the treatment works using the C1005 rather than going through the village.

Improvements to the C1005 are expected to last four weeks. Sections will be closed to traffic during work although local access will be maintained.

Once this is complete and work at the waste water treatment works has begun, a section of the C1005 between the junction at Glack and just prior to Kirkton will be closed.

Two-way traffic will be maintained from the B9006 at Fort George to Kirkton.
