Rink fundraiser adds £500 to appeal total
Visitors to Inverness city centre put on their skates to raise £500 for the Highland Children’s Unit Appeal.
An ice rink in Falcon Square proved a popular attraction for skaters of varying abilities over three days.
Instead of paying an admission charge, skaters were invited to make a donation to the £2 million appeal launched by the ARCHIE Foundation in conjunction with The Inverness Courier to develop a world-class children’s department at Raigmore Hospital.
The ice rink was provided by the Eastgate Shopping Centre.
Jackie Cuddy, shopping centre manager, said it was among a range of family-friendly activities at the centre including Santa’s Peter Pan themed grotto.
"The ice rink was a great success," she said. "Unfortunately because of operational issues in the square, it had to be smaller than we hoped but that did not spoil the fun.
"We put it around the tree and it created a very festive atmosphere. What was lovely was the children having fun while raising money to help other children."
